Multiple documents
CMC has set out to develop and publish a ‘Basic Specification’ for C-ITS systems for motorcycles. All for the sake of improving rider safety. The first version of this has been completed in December 2020.
The CMC Basic Specification is composed of several styles of documents:
Research results, White Papers, Requirements, Technical Specifications, Definitions, Test reports, Guidelines, Recommendations...
All of these are brought together under the structure outlined below.

What has been investigated
1. Assessment: Based on accidentology research, can we see potential safety benefits that could be expected of C-ITS systems that include motorcycles? What type of accidents could be addressed?
2. Applications: Which applications could address relevant safety issues, under which scenarios and what are their so-called use case descriptions?
3. System specification: What about system architecture and specific challenges such as antenna requirements, GNSS positioning and security protocols?
4. Prototype testing and Evaluation: Do the systems work on actual prototype vehicles? What problems need to be solved? What are relevant time frames to give warnings or notifications? How to solve the issue of antenna placement on motorcycles? Is the GNSS positioning accuracy good enough?
5. Position towards other standards: Are there standards from other standardisation bodies, like ETSI or the CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium, suitable for motorcycles? If not, CMC will recommend updates.
6. Human Machine interface: Are there certain recommendations regarding its design so that ideal support can be given to the rider, whilst minimizing negative aspects such as distraction?
7. Roadmap towards the future: Is there a strategy regarding the implementation of the different C-ITS applications through time, related to the extent in which they contribute to the rider safety as well as their technical challenges?
All these topics are described in their own chapter with their own downloadable report document(s).
An Executive Summary is offered, as overview, further below on this page.
